Op-ed written by Whitko Varsity Volleyball Coach Tricia Howard
Morgan Howard, a freshman member of the 2019 Whitko Varsity Volleyball team, has received All-District accolades for her accomplishments this season. To be considered for this honor, athletes must meet specific criteria stipulated by the IHSVCA and then be voted in by the district coaches. The state is broken into four districts and only the top 12 players in each make the cut. Players must be "an impact player in every match played" and possess and exhibit "outstanding personal characteristics" among other criteria.
Statistically, Howard was one of the top players in the state in several areas. In 2A, she led all freshmen outside hitters in hitting percentage with .373 and was #3 in the state for grades 9-12. Morgan was #15 in the state in number of kills and #2 for all freshmen. She finished up the season with 340 kills, 52 service aces, 242 digs.
Seniors Katherine Ousley and Claire Keirn were also recognized by the state for their academic achievements. Katherine and Claire received Academic All State honors in a record-breaking year with 426 student-athletes. To be considered, players must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and a minimum SAT score of 1110 or ACT score of 24.
Congratulations Whitko Volleyball players for your well-earned recognition!
