FREE BREAKFASTS & LUNCHES BEGINNING ON MARCH 23RD.

Whitko Community Schools is currently in planning to deliver breakfast and lunches to every student within our school system. As we said in Dr. Penrod's address school-wide, this was an important choice for us, because it’s the right thing to do. We are currently working behind the scenes with our vendors, food services, and transportation department to give this the quickest turn-around-time possible and minimize any delay in providing that service.

At our current pace, we will begin delivering breakfasts and lunches starting on March 23rd. However, if we are able, it is our intention to begin delivering these meals even sooner. Food deliveries will be provided Monday through Friday using our school buses. While the meal assistance is only for Whitko students, we hope this helps provide some aid to many of our Whitko families.

Our official cut-off time for responses to receive our free meals for students was March 17th at noon. Anyone still wishing to put in a request must contact Whitko Transportation.

    VOLUNTEER EFFORTS

Additionally, many of you have already reached out through your generosity as community members, and many of you have asked, "How can I help?" Many have asked if there is an opportunity to volunteer during this time. And we are also working to find the best way to gather and manage volunteers without conflicting with COVID-19 preventative measures and at the same time allowing us to practice social distancing. There may be opportunities to volunteer with sanitization of our schools, and if you'd like to be a part of that effort, please give our office a call beginning on Monday or sending your school's administrator an email.

    PRACTICING CDC PREVENTATIVE MEASURES

But for now, the best way to help is by minimizing your exposure outside of your home and continuing to practice the preventative measures outlined by the CDC with handwashing, sanitizing high-touch areas inside your home, making plans for your family to participate in our distance learning, and remembering to check back often in case we have sent additional communications.

We appreciate everything that our community is doing to support and be a part of this effort! Thanks for being a Wildcat, we'll connect with you again next time.

Food Services at Whitko

  • Our school cafeterias are meeting tough new federal nutrition standards for school meals, ensuring that meals are healthy and well-balanced and provide students all the nutrition they need to succeed at school. Now is a great time to encourage your kids to choose school lunch!

School meals offer students milk, fruits and vegetables, proteins and grains, and they must meet strict limits on saturated fat and portion size. Since 2012-2013, school lunches have been required to meet additional standards including:

    • Age-appropriate calorie limits
    • Larger servings of vegetables and fruits (students must take at least one serving (1/2 cup) of produce
    • A wider variety of vegetables, including dark green and red/orange vegetables and legumes
    • Fat-free or 1% milk (flavored milk must be fat-free)
    • More whole grains
    • And less sodium

We are always working to offer Whitko students healthier and tastier choices. School meals are a great value and a huge convenience for busy families too!

We look forward to welcoming your children to the cafeteria.
